THE Ted Hughes Young Poets' Award will be launched tonight when Roger McGough visits the Square Chapel, Halifax.
Calderdale Council in partnership with The Elmet Trust are delighted to announce the award. Liverpool poet McGough will launch the competition as part of his Bad Bad Cats event for the July Project, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10, £8 concessions and £5 for under 20s. The theme of the poetry contest is Memories and there will be a winner and two runners-up in each of three age categories: six to 10 years, 11 to 14 years and 15 to 18 years. Prizes are £100 for the winners and £50 for runners up.

The prizes will be awarded by poet laureate Andrew Motion on Wednesday, October 22, at The Ted Hughes Festival 2008 in Mytholmroyd.
