DESPITE icy weather crowds gathered in Heptonstall for the 28th annual Pace Egg festivities.
Hundreds of people braved the cold on Good Friday to watch the regular characters including St George, the Black Prince and Bold Slasher in Weaver's Square.
The English patron battled challengers, who stunned the audience by coming back to life, and bonny lasses got a kiss from Toss Pot whose kiss is said to bestow fertility.
The show, which was revived in 1979, is thought to be one of the world's oldest dramas.
Pupils from Calder High School also performed the Midgely Pace Egg show around the Calder Valley before their final flurry in Heptonstall.
And the Good Friday chill could be indicative of the rest of the bank holiday weekend with some weather forecasters predicting heavy snow across West Yorkshire.
