Organisers of annual galas in Shelf and Lightcliffe will be hoping the weather is kind to them this weekend.
Shelf Gala takes place on Saturday at the village park while Lightcliffe Cricket Club hosts its 20th event the following day.
Organisers at Shelf have added new attractions this year, including St John Fisher High School steel band and a 46-key Dutch street organ.
The gala procession assembles at Interface car park on Halifax Road and leaves at 12.45 pm for Shelf Park. Gala queen Rebecca Hird will be crowned at 1.30 pm.
Other entertainment includes music by X-centrique, Falconry Life bird displays, Stardom School of Performing Arts and a five-a-side football tournament. There will also be a fairground, beer tent and several charity stalls.
Lightcliffe gala committee organised the busiest and most successful event to date last year and will be hoping for even better.
"We were overwhelmed by the number of people who attended last summers' gala," said cricket club chairman John Brooke. "The gala and family fun day is a traditional and old fashioned day out with entertainment to suit all ages and brings the whole community together for the afternoon."
Regular favourites include pony and trap rides, a bouncy slide and castle, children's races, tractor rides, bottle and toy tombolas and a tug-of -war. The Lightcliffe-based, and internationally renowned Dorothy Stevens Ballet School will again be performing and the Diamonds Gymnastics display team from Halifax will also return along with the choir from Lightcliffe C of E school. There will be a beer tent and afternoon tea served in the pavilion. And a barbecue and ice cream trailer will make sure nobody goes hungry. The gala will commence at 2pm, admission is free and visitors are requested to utilise the cricket club car park.
