VANESSA Buckley gave husband Matthew a shock when she went home after an evening rehearsing with Halifax Amateur Operatic Society.
She hadn't taken off her make-up and he was confronted by a green-faced, raven-haired witch instead of his attractive, blonde wife.

Mother-of-two Vanessa, 34, is gearing up for her most challenging role yet as the Wicked Witch of the West in the society's production of The Wizard of Oz, being staged in Halifax next month.

Yvonne White, publicity manager for Halifax Amateur Operatic Society, said almost 100 people were in the production, including 52 aged between three and 16 – Vanessa's daughter Lucy, eight, is playing a Munchkin.

The Wizard of Oz is staged at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, from Wednesday, April 2, to Saturday, April 5 (7.15pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm).

Tickets are selling fast – for information contact the Victoria Theatre box office: 01422 351158. Family tickets and discounts are available.

  • For full details of the production, see next Friday's Entertainment coverage.
