CALDERDALE people rarely get the chance to see home-grown band the Amazing Bavarian Stompers on their own territory.
The band, led by Halifax farmer Frank Chislett - who has been associated with the Stompers for more than three decades – is more often found entertaining crowds elsewhere in the world. It was the first British comedy oompah band to be engaged to appear at a major German bier festival.
Tomorrow night they will be creating the atmosphere of Bavarian bier kellers at the Piece Hall, Halifax, as part of the first annual Halifax Food and Drink Festival this weekend. The evening costs £15, including traditional bratwurst (7.30pm).
Free daytime events both days are being held in conjunction with British Food Fortnight and will highlight the wealth of local producers in Calderdale and the choice of places to dine out.
There will be a farmers' market on both days and a central marquee where you can sample the delights of foods from around the world as well as the best in local produce.
There will also be live entertainment on the stage, cookery demonstrations and even a ducking stool.
