HALIFAX Film Society's 42nd season starts on Sunday with the Mike Leigh film Happy-go-Lucky.
And 13 is a lucky number for people who want to take up full season membership – they will be able to see 13 films for £30 (concessions £20).

The society meets on Sunday evenings at The Playhouse, King Cross Street, with films starting at 7.45pm.

Sunday's opening offering is about Poppy, a 30-year-old primary school teacher in London. She has great friends, a job she loves and a full life. The film watches her confront the harsh realities of life and deal with them head-on, never losing her sense of humour.

The season includes Ang Lee's superb espionage thriller Lust/Caution, There will be Blood, The Diving Bell and The Butterfly and other recently acclaimed films from around the world. There will be a special Christmas show in conjunction with the Halifax Cine and Video Club introduced by Ernest Jennings (6.30pm).
