AS a Halifax Town supporter of nearly 50 years it was with great sadness and shock that I head the news that the club, in its present form, no longer exists ("Farewell Halifax Town", Courier, May 10).
Having had time to gather my thoughts I would like to say thank you to David Bosomworth and Bobby Ham for their efforts to keep the club going and to give it a viable future.
I would like to say thank you to manager Chris Wilder and his players for their efforts on the field, particularly those who have been here through his six years at the club, Adam Quinn and Lewis Killeen.
There has been some unfair criticism of Mr Wilder, both on the terracing and in the Courier. He has been working with a low budget and many injuries over the last two seasons and this season Town had to overcome the 10-point deduction, which they did successfully.
It has been obvious watching the team play over the last six years that the players wanted to play for Mr Wilder and that he had their respect.
That has been particularly true in recent weeks after the points deduction. I wish him and the players every success, wherever they go in the future.
Finally, would it be possible to stage one more event at the Shay, perhaps a charity match involving former Town players as happened in 2002? That would give the fans a final chance to see the club laid to rest, like a funeral.
Thank you again to everyone at Halifax Town over the years.
Derek Holroyd
