Bikers need somewhere to ride

Rustic Avenue,
Southowram.

I WOULD like to comment on a recent Courier article about off-road biking in the area.
When the Goverment banned it here it made no provision for areas where we could go instead.

Calderdale Council should provide an area for this pastime. Why should constituents have to go out of the area to enjoy this sport?

It's not just the riding, it's the maintenance and keeping kids interested in something that dad likes and his son carries on.

Over a period of time the majority of law-abiding citizens have decided to hate off-road motorcycling.

Yet this pastime has gone on for nearly a century, keeping young kids occupied with their bikes, giving them something to do at the weekend and maintenance during the week.

It has been thought of as the scourge of society. The Government has been relentless in its eradication of this sport.

Why not make provision for this recrational activity somewhere in this area, legally?

Eugene Wilson

either tax your bike and ride it on the road, or buy yourself a plot of land to run it on - why should anyone provide a place to ride for you? i cant believe you put pen to paper and made yourself look so stupid

Cyclists certainly need somewhere to go, if they aren't whizzing down the pavement they are destroying our countryside.

It's unlikely that the council will be able to find a spare part of the countryside that's not already been earmarked for development. Besides, they've gone all 'fair trade' now, so the idea of fossil fuel-burning bikes destroying the natural habitats of some poor defenceless voles will have them spinning in their kaftans.
