Fairfax Crescent,
Southowram.
YOU have recently published a number of letters in response to comments made by Sylvia Valentine, the chief executive of Calderdale Citizens' Advice Bureau ("Our advice bureau has lost cash too", Your say, April 7).
I would agree wholeheartedly with the majority of them.
It is recognised that the majority of people who contact the CAB are usually anxious and possibly at the end of their tether because of debt, benefit problems, housing issues etc.
Usually they need to speak to someone who is suitably experienced in whatever issues they are seeking advice about, on a one-to-one basis. A telephone advice service cannot substitute for quality face-to-face advice.
Clearly, based on the experiences of those who write to Your say and those who contribute online comments to published letters at www.halifax today.co.uk/yoursay this is not happening at Calderdale's CAB.
Surely the amount of overall funding received by the CAB is enough to guarantee that this type of service could be available for five days a week.
Ms Valentine should concentrate her energies on providing a good quality of service in Calderdale, instead of making excuses for the CAB's failings by accusing our council of not giving them enough money.
(Mrs) R. Leadbury

on a hot sunny day and having a break indoors for a few mins I find it quite depressing that this saga is still running.
So far as I know no one a good word to say aobut the cab so why on earth did this sylvia highlight there failings be writing to the courier in the first place? she just opened a can of very wriggly worms and has she now got egg on her face or what!

After looking at the Annual report on Cabs' website I noted that in the last year they had an income of £676,000.
Some organisations can only wish they had cabs' cash worries!!

sunflower I am aghast at this ammount! over half a million pounds and they dare moan. I think this may inspire me to put pen to paper instead of fingers to keypad!

Dear Halifaxman100,

I'm not sure who you are referring to as 'greedy, greedy people'. The trained advice workers and service supervisors who deliver the advice service are generally very dedicated, and very committed to providing the best quality advice service that they can give.

The majority of the advice workers are actually volunteers who have committed at least a year of regular volunteering in order to qualify as an advice worker. They give of their time freely because they genuinely want to be part of an organisation that provides a community service.

I think labelling us as 'greedy greedy people' is a little unfair.

Kamal (Advice Work and Social Policy Volunteer)
