Can't our councillors add up?

Ryburn Street,
Sowerby Bridge
ONCE again you have exposed the workshy and mathematically challenged men and women who masquerade as our councillors ("Confused? You will be", Courier, March 19).

It makes you wonder if it is actually true that we are making a loss on our town's parking or is it just that our council lacks the ability to add up?

Councillor Amanda Byrne's excuse was that she filled in two months' time sheets at the same time so she must have been confused. Do we want a bunch of confused dyslexics making major decisions about our town?

Those named and shamed should resign from, or be barred from sitting on, any council sub-committee that makes decisions about what to do with the taxpayers' cash until they get their own affairs in order.

Recently we have seen a number of letters in Your say about Calderdale Dart's funding crisis. If I recall Dart is regarded as a value-for-money service provider. Yet our good council says it cannot afford to rewire the premises Dart rents from it.

I would far rather give my share of my council tax to Dart for its rewiring work than for it to be used to pay for some of these incompetent time wasters to feather their own nests while doing nothing for the electors who pay their wages.

Bruce Holdsworth

Todays vote...88% of people have no confidence in Calderdale Councillors. Bruce perfectly sums up why.

Bruce I and many others have written several times about these inept representatives of our local authority. If they were in private business they would be given their p45s.

As always with those that are in power "once in you can't get em out" well not before they have given themselfs huge pay rises and gold plated pensions. The first and only duty of these councillors of ours is to themselfs, this has been demonstrated time and time again, "they talk a good job" but deliver nothing.

Mr Holdsworth, as you live in S. Bridge, you will know what to do come 1st May. After that date, I will look up the marked register of people who voted. We will see how many of the moaners actually bothered to vote.

"in a democracy, the people get what they deserve."

Rob Reynolds, Democracy givs us a great choice, vote Pillock A, Pillock B, or Pillock C, or maybe Pillock D.

The sooner we all put our votes to use, by throwing out this Dyslexic/Dysfunctional and useless set of Councillors in our respective Wards, then maybe, just maybe, we can move forward with a more dynamic/trustworthy younger calibre of Councillors. As a retired person myself, it really is time for change from the majority of this decrepit lot.

Why should councillors be paid anyway, it use to be a job they did to put something back into their community, now they only do it for a wage. And when they did it out of goodwill in the past, they also did a better job, now THAT's value for money
