Albion Court, Halifax
I AM not a political animal. I enjoy all aspects and shades of politics of all parties.

Like many voters I tend to vote for the person rather than the party.

So when I heard the news that our pioneering Coun Mohammed Najib had been defeated in the local elections ("Our longest serving councillor is ousted", Courier, May 3), I was stunned.

Over the years I have come to appreciate his work and his integrity. I always get a cheery greeting as we pass in the street.

He is a man for all races, not just his own. He understands people and their problems, be they black, white or brindle.

I say to Mohammed Najib: please do not give up. After all the work you have done and the esteem in which many people hold you and the friends you have made from all walks of life, we need your wise head in our council chamber.

Jannette Parsons

it seems that the voters don,t agree with you jannette and he would have been gone a long time ago in any other ward in calderdale but you are right on him being the longest running self serving councillor in calderdale

Najib will try to get back in - mark my words. All he has to do is tell one of his Labour Park ward colleagues: Mahmood and Iqbal-Din to step down so he can run in their place. They are lightweight puppets and will do as they're told.

Those of us who followed the news stories when the tories were in government, and Janette Parsons was all too vocal representing the pensioners association with who in their opinion was responsible for all the countries woes - from pensions, to the weather, to the demise of muffin the mule, will at the moment be doing a mixture of staring with disbelief, or laughing out loud at your comment of being politically impartial.

Council needs you, Najib!!!

Perhaps it does but who neeeds the council?

An organisation as remote from its people as the government of Burma and about as accountable

I always get a cheery greeting in the street Miss Parsons when someone wants to sell me something, but that does not mean it is Kosher.
