I've run out of sympathy for bureau

Littlemoor Road,
Illingworth,
Halifax.

HAVING read all the letters in the long-running debate about Calderdale Council's funding to advice service providers I was heartened to see that so many people have agreed with my initial thoughts.
These were that the chief executive of Calderdale Citizens' Advice Bureau, Sylvia Valentine, was being ungrateful in respect of the funds that our council does give to the CAB ("Our bureau has lost cash too", Your say, April 7).

That she had the audacity to claim that the CAB is struggling to provide a service when its income was assumed to be around £380,000 both surprised and irritated a lot of people.

After reading online contributions to the debate, which suggested that people look at the whole of the CAB's funding position, I was appalled to see that last year the CAB's overall income was a massive £676,000.

That is over half a million pounds! Yet Mrs Valentine whin- ges that they have had to close premises and reduce opening hours. Well, shame on them!

Quite frankly my sympathy for Calderdale CAB has well and truly run out.

Sheila Marsden
