A REGULAR Courier letter writer has died, aged 88.
Kathleen Holmes was well known for her frequent bulletins from her home in Haugh Shaw Road, Halifax, with opinions on local and national events.
After her death her daughter, Kathleen Betts, of Doncaster, found a letter addressed and ready for pos
ting.
She said: "I was glad when she started writing to the Courier mailbag again.
"She was always pleased if her letters got printed and enjoyed the comments that other readers had to say, even though on occasion it was about her letters.
"It was apparent she had fans too. People who knew her remarked how much they liked reading her comments and agreed with her opinion."
And with that in mind, she decided to pass on her mum's final letter to the Courier.
Mrs Holmes had two grandchildren and was a great-grandmother. Mrs Betts said: "She was not just my mum but my friend too.
"She was a real character and very forthright. My sister and I will miss her greatly."
The text of the final letter reads:
Dear Editor
Blair and Bush certainly stirred up a hornet's nest with the overthrow of Saddam.
Creating a needless war, leaving a lot of grief for people to bear. Never mind the cost of it all, Blair leaving the country in a turmoil for Brown to take all the flak. Very clever of him.
I wonder who's having the last laugh in it all? (Guess).
Yours truly,
K Holmes
