I would like to respond to the recent letter from Craig Whittaker, which falsely implies that our MP, Chris McCafferty, myself and the Energy Secretary Ed Miliband are opposed to measures to radically cut greenhouse gas emissions.

It is a real sha
me that Coun Whittaker is trying to reduce the serious issue of climate change to a politically-motivated daft exercise in misinformation.

He tells your readers that Chris McCafferty and the Energy Secretary recently voted against a motion urging the Govern-ment to sign up to the 10:10 campaign.

But he neglects to mention that this was a Liberal Democrat motion, best described by Labour's Des Browne as "simply empty rhetoric and posturing".

While this motion was rejected the Government's amendment was accepted without any opposition.

The result was that £20million was allocated to Government departments enabling them to make carbon reductions further and faster across their estates.

If this doesn't assure Coun Whittaker of the Government's commitment to tackling climate change then perhaps he needs reminding of Labour's record.

We were the first country in the world to set legally binding carbon targets under our Climate Change Act and we're now the world's number one offshore wind power.

The UK has been one of the few countries to beat its Kyoto targets and we're looking to create 1.2 million green jobs in the next decade.

Compare that with the Conservative party's record and he'll see a world of difference.

David Cameron's green credentials consist of cycling to work while a car follows behind and sticking a wind turbine on his house while 60 per cent of Tory councils reject wind energy applications. That's not leadership, that's just gesture politics.

Climate change (previously known as global warming, and before that the upcoming new ice age) = the biggest con since the South Sea Bubble.

You are not tackling climate change at all!
What you are doing is increasing taxes to pay off your appalling borrowing, under the pretext of being green.
Take the Aircraft charges recently introduced and tell us what green purpose you have designated for this immense amount of money?
Then have a look at the Queens Speech - you even make a mockery of HMs neutrality. You lot simply have to go!

Sadly the UK has only beat its Kyoto target because of the de-industrialisation of the UK. If we took into account the amount we consume but is produced elsewhere and transported here (our carbon footprint) we most certainly have not, what we now do is import our carbon producing products from elsewhere rather than produce them ourselves - I really wish the government would stop conning us on this - the rest of the world sees that we have shifted our dirty production abroad but not cut our consumption of carbon dirty products - it is no good politicians coming out with such statements when they clearly do not understand that it is the end user that is the market driving force with this problem not the producer, the writer of this letter would cause a good giggle amongst anyone who has studied this issue at all. I suggest the writer takes a deeper study into the economics of this debate.

The Labour strategy to reduce UK Carbon Emissions is to destroy our manufacturing with taxes and over-regulation resulting in 1 million jobs lost since 1997 (with co-incidentally 1 million jobs created in the non-wealth generating public sector), and encourage our waste to be exported to China to convert into finished goods to sell back to us at a profit to them.

If Labour were really behind Green wind power and creation of Green jobs they would have supported the Isle of Wight company Vestas, that went bust in April 2009 with loss of 700 jobs, with the same bailout as given to the greedy banks - but they didn't.

Ms Booth - I think your definition of green jobs is bureaucrats employed to poke their noses into our bins, and nanny us to death, in another increase in the size of the "Big Stazi State" public sector.

And the Millenium Bug.

Just consider this - the best way to ensure that you build up a following, be it to a theory, religion or other cause is to first exagerate beyond measure the dire consequences of not adhering to this new belief.

This fits all, including pro and con fluoridisation, an elected Mayor, Risk Assessments and anything PC.

Why is the only solution to "takling climate change" to introduce so called "green taxes"? The taxes are not used to takle climate change, just to punish anyone who dares to use a car or plane.
