Late-night fireworks fright

Long Fallas Crescent, Brighouse.
ON Saturday, April 26, at 11pm fireworks were let off in the Woodhouse area which, although of short duration, were so loud they were heard in the Fixby area.

As ward councillor I have had quite a large number of angry residents contact me complai
ning about the lateness of the hour and the fact that it woke children and disturbed pets. I must admit it gave me quite a fright and sent my cat running for safety.

Putting all that aside, it was also illegal. May I remind everyone anticipating a firework celebration that using fireworks during the night hours of 11pm and 7am is an offence for which West Yorkshire Police is the enforcement authority.

The only exceptions to this curfew are on November 5, when the night hour is extended to midnight, New Year's Eve, the first day of the Chinese New Year and Diwali, when the evening hours are extended to 1am.

I would urge all residents to abide by these restrictions, which are hardly draconian, and enjoy their fireworks while taking due regard to and consideration of their neighbours, their children and their pets.

(Coun) Ann McAllister
(Con, Rastrick)

Oh Dear!
These are going off all year long in Blackley and Elland.
Laws? Don't be daft! These are there so the Police can ignore them. Like the officer who told a neighbour that our lane was walked nightly! Liar!
With 4 CCTV cameras looking on? What're they wearing - cloaking devices?

They do frighten the animals, anyhow what is that waste of space Anne McCalister on about i thought she had married a toy boy from Zimbawi to get him a passport and had moved to Greece to grow olives or something and that her toy boy 'Kevin' had left her for his first wife who is alot younger who has seven kids with him and are all now living in social housing in Halifax and Anne is now back cleaning tables at Witherspoons and selling the Big Issue outside of the post office in Halifax and there was a big fight with the other Big Issue seller and the police were called and said its a civil matter so Anne went to citizens advice and they told her that the local vigilanti group had their meetings on Thursdays and they would 'sort' it for her. So now Anne wants to get back into the council but they wont let her because she aint good enough anymore.

Just what our Councillors need. A rocket up them. I thought Councillor McAllister had passed away. You don't hear much from her and she doesn't answer emails or her phone. Perhaps these fireworks have woken her up?

If the fireworks were let off at 11 and they're allowed to be up until 11 then where is the offence ?
