I READ your article on the council's plan for Broad Street ("Council in Broad Street move", Courier, July 11) but I cannot get my head around the sum of £12 million that it was going to cost to refurbish the council offices in Northgate. Did this figure include the library?

I thought the Broad Street project was already decided so can the council change things? Has there been any consultation with the public?

If the new plan goes ahead will the library still have the same facilities as now?

It has been open for just over 25 years and for a town the size of Halifax it is very good and the staff are very helpful.

What will happen to the arch-ives in the vaults which were specially built for the purpose?

(Mrs) Rosemary Lord

Rosemary the library wasnt specialy built for the archives.

the archives were a function of West Yorkshire County Council abolished by the government as the people could not be trusted not to vote Labour.

The broad street development does not stack up as shopping is moving from towns to the internet.

it is neccesary to bolster it with space the council will pay offices.

there is nothing wrong with the northgate house. just officer embarasment.

my guess is broad street will never get off the ground
it was barmy from day one.
