Whitehill Green,
Halifax.
RECENTLY I had a visit from the RSPCA because someone had seen my dog, 16-year-old Tess, was "struggling", whatever that means.
I hope this person is proud of her or himself for reporting me. What are they trying to prove?
I have had the dog at the vet's three times in the last three weeks and I am sure the RSPCA will confirm that I have done everything in my power to treat this dog as old dogs should be treated.
I am a widow of 77 years and she is my only companion.
If the person who reported me sees this I hope they will agree that they were out of order.
(Mrs) Pauline Deadman

I disagree, if anyone suspects an animal is suffering it is best to be on the cautious side and report it, if it turns out to be ok no harm has been caused, it was obviously someone who was concerned and thought they were doing right by the dog.

Hardly the point!
The RSPCA is a bombastic overbearing group. WE telepnoned them many times over many incidents and they did not bother!
Given the chance to bully an elderly person, or other helpless victim, they become overbearing.
Read about the manner THEY treat creatures on the internet, and then wonder?

You actually got a visit from the RSPCA? That should have made the headlines if nothing else.

Where I work we can see across to the car park of a nearby factory. An employee there used to bring his three dogs (medium sized - like collies) to work in his car, a little Peugeot 106, and leave them in a cage in the back with the seats folded down all day, in the unbroken sunshine.
Despite repeated calls to the RSPCA no-one was interested. We stopped ringing after we were told that the dogs were better there than being left at home alone. Unfortunately one of them died in the car shortly afterwards and the guy involved has now left so what state the others were in God only knows.

If they come rattling their tins in front of me they`ll get them rammed down their self-righteous throats.

Unnfortunately teh RSPCA have a very esoteric definition of what constitutes CRUELTY TO ANIMALS. As a district nurse I often took the law into my own hands when I saw something needed sorting. I was stopped taking my dog to work in the back of my car on the grounds of infection--what rubbish--we would have had to go round dressed in space suits to every house if this was an "infection risk"--actually it was a new pipsqueak manager with no experience who caused that, I retired asnyway after going off with stress!
But I cant understand what the RSPCA DO--- when I did Cat Rescue they regarded us as interfering do gooders. I have reported many things to them to no avail--it seems things have to be so bad before they intervene instead of educating --and monitering ---these idiots who obtain animals God only knows why when they do intend to look after them properly!

I am sure Tess has a very caring owner. Soem people, due to age or illness, find themselves unable to walk or look after their pets properly. I myself will willingly help anyone out, and have done so, both as a district nurse or as a friend , and I have made sure all my pets are in my will so that if I kick the bucket before them, they will be loved and cared for.
