Post offices: so much for consultation

Vine Grove,
Clifton,
Brighouse
Courtesy of our European Union partners, last week was a bad week for local communities eager to retain the services of their neighbourly post offices.

Leeds reported that, of the 22 post offices earmarked for closure, all were to be closed.

Nearer home, Calderdale followed suit with its batch of 11 post offices.

So much for the all-too-prevalent box-ticking exercise rolled out by authorities nationwide nowadays, a vogue that is long on rhetoric but consistently short on promise.

This process, as things appear at the moment, almost always results in disappointment for the embattled victims. This process is called "consultation".

A soporific if ever there was one.

George Simpson

dont worry Craig is on the job and sure to save them.

the fact they are not used should not peterb us.

I commend the government and the post office for saving the many, many offices left in calderdale, many in communities where the council took the libraries and halls long ago.
