While recently travelling on a bus into Halifax, I was disturbed by a young man who was carrying out an annoying habit which seems to be the current trend among the young. He was one seat behind me with music blaring out from his phone.

I have no problem with people listening to their music but is it not common decency to use headphones, thereby not letting it affect other people?

Unfortunately, I fear that courtesy to other people is fast becoming something of an anomaly.

Rather than get agitated by this, however, I have decided to fight fire with fire. I have recently upgraded my mobile phone to one which doubles as an mp3 player which, I believe, is a music player. I asked my son to upload some music for me and give me a few pointers on how to work it.

I can now hardly wait to catch the bus into Halifax, and eagerly await the inconsiderate soul who wishes to pollute the air with their loud, lyricless music as I have some classic Sir Cliff Richard, Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport by Rolf Harris and even some David Hasselhoff to play in response, from one seat behind them.

So you intend to join the small group of obnoxious people who annoy bus passengers with noisy phones. I think i'd better avoid your bus.

Yes,I've come across similar instances before, but mainly from "tiskers", whose earphones are about as much use as a trap-door in a rowing boat! All you can hear is tsk, tsk, tsk from their flamin' radio/mobile/ipod throughout your journey. The only immediate and extremely inviting option (and one I'd love to do if only I had the courage!) is to carry a pair of scissors and cut their wire if they insist on playing too loudly!-At the end of the day, with the fares people have to pay then it is about time that the bus companies were forced to accept some responsibility for ensuring that such brainless morons are "invited" by the bus driver to either turn down or turn off their machines or leave the bus at the next stop! Most drivers couldn't give a damn, or are too gutless to try this. Amazingly the only one I have seen enforcing this rule (and on a regular basis!)is a lady bus-driver, and more power to her, too! About time the rest followed suit and ensured that passengers have the right to travel in peace and relative quiet. C,mon "First", you're happy to increase fares, so start also making your drivers enforce their passengers rights and entitlement to expect a comfortable journey!!!

Hasselhoff? Music? Surely you jest sir! It would be akin to watching the England rugby XV at the Royal Ballet
