Keswick Close,
Todmorden
Reading Tony Dawber's account of his visit to a multi-screen cinema complex ("No soul in the picture house", Courier, April 26) it saddened me to think of old values and etiquette being lost.
Todmorden boasts a wonderful building which hosts the Hippodrome Theatre. This is an excellent centre of entertainment for young, old and all in between and the old values are still in use.
On entering the foyer to see an excellent performance of My Fair Lady, a lady dressed smartly in black checked our tickets and we were directed to the correct entrance where an usherette showed us to our seats.
At the interval girls with trays of ice-cream and drinks came to the top of the aisle. Downstairs tea, coffee and alcoholic drinks were all available and served with a smile.
The staff are all volunteers and do the jobs because they want to. If Tony wants to be treated like a valued customer and met by people who are happy to do their job he should come to the Hippodrome.
(Mrs) Susan Thornton
