Sheer bad manners!
Marlborough Avenue,
Manor Drive,
Halifax.
THE other day there was a programme on the radio about good manners.
The presenter had taken a team of footballers as an example of how one could improve same.
She discussed with the team the amount of spitting and swearing on the pitch and the bad example it set to the younger generation.
She was attempting to point out how much better we would all be if we all improved our manners when dealing with other people.
An example of bad manners and lack of consideration occurred while I was taking a short bus journey recently.
Outside Halifax swimming pool a car stopped at the bus stop to drop off a passenger, causing the driver to swerve in front of him to halt at the stop.
Two minutes later a car changed its lane at the traffic lights, blocking both lanes and causing the bus to pull up.
Entering Horton Street a van had parked while the driver delivered something, so causing a traffic jam and then, as the bus set off, two people decided that they could cross the road without looking.
I was full of admiration for the professional attitude of the bus driver, who said not a word.
A few hours later I got on the same bus being driven by the same driver. As he was about to pull into the bus stop in Market Street a black BMW braked in front of him at the bus stop to allow a passenger to get out.
This passenger then walked in front of the bus, giving the bus driver a sullen look, and proceeded to walk across the road without looking to the right.
How this driver kept his cool I'll never know. If this is an example of the "manners" our bus drivers have to put up with every day I'll never grumble again when my bus is late!
