Ribbons were sponsored by people like my family who have suffered the trauma of losing someone dear to cancer. The materials for the ribbons were donated by local businesses to be sponsored by people and then tied to the trees in the grounds of Over
gate (dedicated to someone special).
The day was well organised by community fund-raiser Laura, with Mary West, Willie Long and volunteers serving refreshments. Entertainment was provided by the Huddersfield Flutes from Meltham (six lovely ladies led by Carol). Though the weaher was pretty miserable at times it did not dampen the spirits of the above nor of the scores of visitors to this worthwhile event that raised more than £8,000 for a worthy cause.
The money raised will only support Overgate for two days as it takes £4,000 per day to run the hospice, but well done everyone. Let's make it an annual event. To see the scores of different colours of ribbons was a beautiful sight, and knowing each one was dedicated to a loved one brought a tear or two.
The staff at Overgate cannot add days to life but, with support, can add life to days.
