I READ the letter by Mrs M. Elwin ("Shame store is closing", Your say, June 11), who was shocked to see Home Bargains will be closing. I say good riddance; Halifax does not need shops like that.
I am sick of going to Halifax and seeing shops like Ho
me Bargains, cheap shops, discount shoe shops and charity shops.
These shops attract the wrong kind of people to Halifax. There are enough shops like this so why does Mrs Elwin feel so strongly about it that she has to write a letter?
I would like to see better shops, like HMV. Why doesn't Halifax have one?
I love to see new businesses opening in Halifax, such as the new noodle bar on Crown Street. The sad thing is it probably won't last long as the majority of people shopping in Halifax prefer shops like Home Bargains!
I hardly shop in Halifax any more; I go to Leeds. If the shops were a little better in Halifax I would love to shop there.
The Home Bargains building will not be turned in to "more flats" or "another pub"; it will probably be a big discount shoe shop, pound shop or charity shop, which will probably make Home Bargains' shoppers quite happy.
