A CALDERDALE walker is doing a 100-mile stomp over two sleep-starved days.
But for 53-year-old John Shackleton (pictured), the gruelling hike through the Dales will be like a stroll down memory lane.
John, of Higher Eastwood, Tod-morden, is doing the walk, called the Yoredale 100, to raise money for Cancer Research UK, after losing several friends to the disease.
He said: "As far as I'm concerned, it's the ultimate challenge, it means going without sleep and walking through two nights.
"But I have loved the Dales since I was a boy and have always had an affinity with them.
"To spend two days walking there could be blissful – but only if the weather's good."
John who has previously raised £8,500 through charity walks has been doing his training in all weather conditions.
But whatever the weather he says his inspiration will be a line from poet T S Eliot: "Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go."
