A MAN drank 20 pints on a 12-hour bender before breaking his ex-girlfriend's window and threatening to kill her.
Peter Spencer, 54, of Whitwell Grove, Elland, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and threatening behaviour.

He was jailed for four months for the threatening behaviour and two months for the damage to property, to run concurrently.

He started dr
inking at about 8am on April 14 and got through 20 pints of strong lager before turning up at Elizabeth Smith's house in Elland at about 8.25pm.

Jane Farrar, prosecuting, told Calderdale magistrates that Miss Smith was watching TV when she heard glass smashing.

A rear window had been broken with a lump of stone.

She opened the front door and saw Spencer walking down a passage at the side of the house, connecting with the garden at the back.

He said: "You're dead, I am going to kill you."

Mrs Farrar told the court that Spencer was already on bail for other offences against Miss Smith and was breaking his bail conditions.

Laurence Walker, representing Spencer, said: "This incident follows the breakdown of a relationship.

"There is a theme of alcohol abuse. He had drunk about 20 pints of strong lager, and was so drunk that he cannot remember what happened.

"He has moved from skilled work into the licensing trade, allowing him to become the servant of the alcohol rather than the master of it.

"There was never an intention by him to do anything but there was clearly an intention to make her believe that something might happen."

Maybe his ex was not blessed with the greatest beauty and he needed 20 pints to make her so. Why didn't his solicitor think of putting this as his defence?

The reason is in the title. He was obviously not attracted to women, which is why he became a '12 hour bender'. Thankfully it's only a temporary condition, but it puts you right off women.

It's what scientists call 'Robbie Williams Syndrome'
