CALDERDALE'S parents chose a mixture of trendy and traditional names for their new arrivals in 2006.
Among babies whose birth was announced in the Courier, the most popular name in 2006 for a little girl was Isobel, or the one of the slight variations of Isobella, Isabella or Isabelle.
The name topped Calderdale's chart for the second year running.
Topping the baby name chart for boys was William - with six babies given the traditional name.
The second smost popular baby names for our children were Katie or Kate, which had five entries in the chart, and Oliver, which had four.
Other popular names for girls in Calderdale were Olivia, Grace and Freya and Joshua, Ethan, Charlie or Charley were chosen for boys.
The Office of National Statistics show the favoured names in England and Wales for 2006 were Jack or Thomas and Olivia or Grace.
New entries nationally were Muhammed, Oscar, Lucas and Rhys or Imogen, Sophia and Anna for girls.
The top baby names in the region also show that Calderdale's parents are becoming more adventurous with their choices.
Lola Bliss, Kayla, Serenity and Sienna Rose were joined by Christmas Day babies Kaden Jedi and Cherry Alyssa.
For boys, parents also opted for unusual names such as Lorcan, Quin, Lui, Vaughan, Caelan and Steele Benson.
National statistics also show that parents look to the celebrity world for inspiration.
The 2005 X factor winner Shayne Ward has a dedicated following with the popularity of his first name rising by 827 per cent nationally, Celebrity Big Brother was also a hit with Ordinary Boy Preston moving up 767 places to 148. But his wife's name Chantelle hasn't made such an impact, rising only 13 places to 213.
Celebrities' children clearly have an influence, David and Victoria Beckham's youngest son's name Cruz has risen in popularity by 245 per cent. While Maddox, the name given to the adopted son of Angelina Jolie, is up 88 places on last year. Britney Spears' youngest, Jayden, has risen 16 places to number 68.
Lexie, the name given to Steven Gerrard's daughter has risen 239 per cent in the last year making it the 142 choice for girls.
The name Keira, shared by Pirates of the Caribbean star Keira Knightley, continues to rise with 1470 registrations in 2006 - making it the 33rd most popular girls name.
Unfortunately, Orlando Bloom has not seen the same success with the popularity of his name falling 179 places in 2006.
Fellow pirate Mackenzie Crook has also seen a decline in popularity with only 399 boys in 2006 sharing their name with the Brit.
