21st Halifax Irish Festival is underway

The ever popular Haifax Irish Festival gets under this weekend, beginning tomorrow evening with a gala dinner dance.

The 21st anniversary gathering is being held at the Cedar Court Hotel, at Ainley Top.

Entertainment will be provided by the Stephen Smyth Showband, the Caddy School of Irish Dancing and Across the Water.

Tickets costs £35 a head and are available on 01422 381055.

Organiser Peter Timmons said it was expected that as many as 200 guest would attend the dinner and the Sunday event would be bigger and better than ever.

Several Irish bands have been lined up to entertain crowds at Halifax Piece Hall from noon on Sunday.

They will include local group Belt of the Celts, as well as Giants Causeway and the Nicky James Band

The Cassidy and Jodie Kennedy Irish Dancers will also feature.

There will be stalls, a beer tent, a children’s fairground and food served.

Admission is £5 with concessions £3 and under-12s free.

The event, which runs until 5pm, is organised by The Halifax and District Irish Society.
