A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has told a jury that another teenager was responsible for the death of a woman who was kicked and stamped on in a park.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said he saw the boy hit Sophie Lancaster, 20, in the face with a volley kick before he stamped on her head as she lay on the ground next to her 21-year-old boyfriend, who had also been assaulted.

In Preston Crown Court, the 15-year-old admitted he punched Miss Lancaster's boyfriend, Rob Maltby, once in the face but said he was not part of a gang who went on to attack the pair, who were dressed as Goths, like a pack of wild animals.

Miss Lancaster died from her injuries two weeks after the assault in Stubbylee Park in Bacup, near Todmorden, in the early hours of August 11 last year. Mr Maltby, whose parents own Cheers off licence in Todmorden, survived but has not made a full recovery.

The 15-year-old boy denies murder and the 16-year-old he blamed for the attack has already confessed to the offence.
