A MAN hit an off-duty police officer's car with a brick, which he claimed was aimed at his neighbour's cat.
The officer was driving home in his VW Golf when his windscreen was smashed.

When he stopped he discovered Steven Wimbles, of Lower Edge Road, Brighouse, had hurled the brick across the road.

And in an unrelated incident the same night Wimbles assaulted another officer who was called to his house after a disturbance.

The 34-year-old admitted unlawful damage and assaulting an officer when he appeared at Calderdale Magistrates Court.

Mark Steeples, prosecuting, said the brick caused about £600 damage to the car.

Officers were at Wimbles's home again two hours later after reports of a disturbance.

Wimbles became aggressive, grabbing an officer's arm and twisting it. He only let go after being threatened with CS spray.

Laurence Walker, for Wimbles, said: "Unfortunately he is an alcoholic and has been for some time. He admitted both crimes straight away and was fully co-operative."

Sentencing was adjourned to March 23.
