Over 85 per cent of Calderdale's schools took up an offer of a practical road safety lesson for their students.
The lesson was created by the council, after an investigation into Calderdale's child casualty statistics suggested the main reason youngsters were getting hit was because they were not looking before crossing the road.
Craig Whittaker, Calderdale Council's cabinet member for children and young people, said: "It is important we all work together to ensure Cald-erdale primary school children are safe and visible on the roads."
Each child was shown how to find safer places to cross the road, how to cross safely at a junction and by parked cars. They were given a colourful book-let full of advice.
Kate Marsh, Calder-dale's deputy road safety officer, said: "We urge parents and carers to take as many opportunities as possible to encourage their child in helping them in making the decision when it is safe to cross the road.
"Starting with simple road crossings on quieter roads and finally moving up to busy roads which take in junctions, crossroads and roundabouts."
