YOUNGSTERS got to grips with a snake, a scorpion, lizards, a cockroach, a tarantula – and a rat called Ratatouille.
The children at the Illingworth Centre zoo workshop handled the exotic creatures and asked expert Animal Man questions abut them.
Amanda Jackson, senior youth worker at the centre, said: "It was very educational. The children really put some thought into the questions they wanted to ask, including whether or not some of the animals were in danger of becoming extinct.
"It was very special because it is not often these children have the opportunity to see these types of animals. Many of them have never been to a zoo before."
