A PAIR of daredevil teenagers are going to leap from the tallest tower in America.

Fifteen-year-olds Francesca Calvert, from Barkisland, and Kayeligh Paxman, from Huddersfield, will be plunging 855 feet from the Stratosphere in Las Vegas in a bungee jump.

The friends, who both go to Crossley Heath School in Halifax, want to ra
ise money in memory of relatives they have lost to cancer.

Francesca is collecting cash for Overgate Hospice as a tribute to her grandmother, Lynne Calvert, who died two years ago.

She said: "I always said I was going to do something to raise money for the hospice.

"My grandma was happy when she was there because she was looked after so well.

"I'm feeling scared about doing the jump but excited at the same time.
"I think my grandma would be thrilled with me."

Francesca's dad Gary said his daughter came up with the idea when they were discussing what they would do during a family trip to Las Vegas next month.

"She saw a picture of the Stratosphere and said 'I'm going to jump off that'.

"My wife and I are both really proud of her."

The Stratosphere is a tower, hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Its tower is the tallest tower, and the fifth-tallest structure, in the United States.

I have stayed in the Stratosphere..it was a bit of a dingy place compared with the other hotels...but the rides & bungee jumping on top are pretty hair raising...I just went up to have a look via the safety of the lift.

Look it's a nice story, but, remember if we give our money a lot of it will go on these two having the time of their life, what's wrong with a sponsored walk at home? or standing on a cold windy corner with a tin in their hands?

#4 The minimum cost for one jump is $100usd. I presume this cost will be borne by the girls themselves, or their parents, as part of the family holiday - or am i just naive? Maybe Ms Calvert or Ms Paxman could clarify this...

#5 Ellie is lucky, your a far nicer man than me.
I do however wonder about the way cash is collected for charity as I said we used to stand on cold, wet street corners with a tin in our hands.
This might sound silly but, every Christmas we have all our family (14) round for Dinner. We charge each person £5 and send £70 to cancer research.

This is Francesca,s mum some people dont think before commenting !!! Francesca & Kayleigh are paying to do the jump themselves!! and are very excited about... and so they should be.. a bit of support and encouragement instead off slagging them off would not go a miss

To Halifaxjohn & Elliesdad
Here we have two brave young teenager girls wanting to do something for charity. I believe they've paid for this challenge out of their own pocket! How small minded you both are. Perhaps if more teenagers were like these two we wouldn't have all the problems with the youth today. As for standing on street corners collecting..perhaps these two girls wanted to do something a little more challenging than rattling a tin...Good Luck girls...Im sure your grandmother would have been exceptionally proud of you Francesca.

Hi, I'm Kayleigh Paxman, and I'm the one doing the jump. Thank you Rachel and A M Carroll! As you may be aware, Francesca and I are doing it for two different charities that are special to us. I would like you to take a minute HalifaxJohn, to understand just how much money is needed to run these charities- both charities need over £4000 each DAY, each GUEST,<< to keep running the amazing things they do. With Kirkwood, they not only helped TWO of my very close family members, but they also councelled people involved, so why would I take MORE money away from them? Its sick. Plus, we were already doing the jump, then we decided to do it for charity, is that not a good thing?
I understand your opinion on where exactly fundraisers do get their money from, but there's completely no need at all to take that out on us. What i'm doing for my Grandad and Auntie is extreemly important to me, and nobody, at all, is going to take that away from me.
P.s I've heard a rumour that it's illegal to shake your cans at people. + Just so that you know, not including francescas money, ive raised £255 so far, which is more help than the pennies i'd get in my can. If you saw me on the street would you donate me £50 anonamously like i've recieved doing this? But I also apreciate your opinion, thank you.
