A MAN who attacked his girlfriend before pushing a pram containing her two-year-old daughter into the middle of the road has been spared jail.
Lee Wennington, 21, attacked the pair, whose identity has been protected by the courts, in Syke Lane, Lightcliffe, after he and his girlfriend had been arguing in a car.

Waseem Raja, prosecuting, told Calderdale magistrates his girlfriend had aske
d Wennington to stop the car to let her daughter out but once they were outside he slapped her in the face and pushed her to the ground.

"He then pushed the pram containing her daughter into the road.

"The mother then got up, retrieved the pram and walked down the street.

"The defendent pursued until she found a passer-by. He then drove off in a car."

Wennington, of Bishopdale Holme, Buttershaw, Bradford, pleaded guilty to assaulting his partner.

He had denied assaulting the tot, but was found guilty by the magistrates

Maria Temko, for Wennington, said: "He is a very young and immature man and this is perhaps something he cannot accept to himself has happened.

"These were two very young people and unfortunately there was a baby involved.

"He realises his behaviour was very inappropriate."

Wennington received a 18-month community order for the two assaults, was ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work and ordered to attend an anger management programme.

He was also ordered to pay £50 compensation to his former partner.

"He realises his behaviour was very inappropriate."

Jesus H Christ ! I don't know how these Solicitors / Barristers can keep a straight face when they are coming up with these pathetic excuses that they expect to be considered as " Mitigating Circumstances ". I wish I had witnessed this myself first hand - The case would have come to court.

Remember! A short storied article in a newspaper does not give the full story and only short-sighted, small-minded people respond in the way contributors 1 - 7 have done.

Many thanks for your valuble insight Adrian. I have obviously misjudged this poor young lad who is being blamed unfairly for this " so called " misdemeanour that is clearly being blown out of all proportion. Maybe we should be looking more closely at what this 2 year old did to make him react in such a way and put the blame on her ?

Would the last person leaving Calderdale please turn the lights off!!
This does not make any sense? Failure to pay your TV Licence, Council Tax, let yor dog foul in a park (Really big fine under new regs), dump rubbish, fail to place the right rubbish in your bin all carry a higher penalty than the fifty pounds this guy has had to pay up.

Calderdale Magistrates have again failed to do what is expected by the victim and the public in this case. He could be a danger to the public and if he is able to do this to someone he supposedly loved, what could he do to a complete stranger! Hang your heads in shame magistrates. (Courier: Please start giving us the names of the magistrates sitting on these sessions)
