Ten Floors have forked out £1,250 to finance their download-only single The Apple Tree which is available from November 26. And 4,000 downloads dill secure a Top 40 spot.
The band consists of Rastrick High School pupils Josh Carruthers (vocals and keyboard), brothers Ste Brown (lead guitar), Jake Brown (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Adi Bell (drums and backing vocals). They are all 17.
Josh, of Brighouse, describes their sound as "alternative rock/pop" and said: "Our ultimate aim for the single is for it to be played on Radio One and then the world is our oyster," said Josh.
The band, formerly known as Ten Floors Below Society, play at the Ukrainian Club, Halifax, on October 26.
The Apple Tree along with its b-side Thousand Miles will be available in digital stores and each download will earn the band 79p.
A 10-date gig through to the end of November is now underway to promote the single and the band, formerly known as Ten Floors Below Society.
Josh and his fellow musicians, who live in Huddersfield, will be taking a gap year after their studies at Rastrick High to further pursue their dream of a musical career.
The school and head teacher Helen Lennie are supporting the band.
"She is really behind us and helping us with our promotion work," said Josh.
The band released a debut album in 2003 and last year was judged winner of the "Pulse of West Yorkshire Radio Battle of the Bands."
In January 2008 Ten Floors will release more new songs on an EP. You can hear more of their music at their MySpace page - www.myspace.com/tenfloors.
