POLICE have issued a warning to parents after a teenager fell through four floors of a derelict mill building.

The 14-year-old boy was in the disused factory, on Old Lane, Ovenden, Hali-fax, on Saturday night when the accident happened.

He fell through one floor, only for a further three floors to collapse beneath him.

He escaped with minor injuries and was treated at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Now police are urging parents to warn their children of the dangers of being in such buildings.

Sergeant Brian Parker, of Halifax north and east neighbourhood policing team, said: "Youths are drinking heavily in that area and I am concerned for their safety.

"We urge parents to check where their children are at night.

"We are well aware of the problems of anti-social behaviour in that area and we will maintain a high visibility presence while increasing our patrols."

Fencing has been put up around the derelict building but Sgt Parker said youths were ignoring it and still climbing into the building.

Anyone with concerns about anti-social behaviour should contact Halifax north and east neighbourhood policing team on 0845 6060606.

Though he should not have been in the building, glad he only suffered minor injuries and is OK.

How come the building wasn't secure, where have the Health & Safety people been?

I am pleased that the kid is ok obviously - Doubtless the mother will be suing. Is that what you were implying Vicroad? wishing it was your kid so you could be the slip and trip claim parasite. Never mind better luck next time.

That factory actually looks like one of the more desirable properties in Ovenden.

I think it might be a listed building that you can't knock down. It might have to fall down
