TRAINSPOTTING brothers Chris and Andrew Wright have spent 12 years fighting to open their dream pub in a railway station.
And, after suffering numerous delays, it is finally open.

The train and real ale enthusiasts have converted the old ticket office at Sowerby Bridge station into a licensed cafe called The Jubilee Refreshment Rooms and opened for business on July 11.

Chris, 47, said: "We are both so proud to have finally done it.

"It's been a mad rush but we are delighted.

"We have been trying to get this done since 1997 and, even though it has been incredibly difficult, from our point of view it was always going to happen.

"We're learning as we go along and are both working every hour in the day at the minute, but it's well worth it.

"It is all new and exciting but we are really enjoying getting into the swing of it."

The cafe, named after the last class of steam locomotive to operate in Calderdale, opens at 7am serving teas, coffees and snacks to commuters from a serving hatch.

Breakfasts are on offer later in the day and from noon to closing time, drinks including up to six types of locally brewed real ale are available.

The brothers have transformed the previously disused office with many original features including sliding sash windows and the clay pipes used by its builders in 1876.

The iconic clock belonging to John Tempest Jewellers, which was based on Commercial Street, Halifax, is also now hanging in the building.

Both brothers have been helping Sowerby Bridge's Yorkshire in Bloom bid and the work done at the train station and cafe was praised by judges when they visited last week

Congratulations Andrew and Chris. I enjoyed my beers in there on Thursday.
A real pub with real beer. I hope it all goes well for you.
Beautifully decorated, clean and inviting. No loud music or fruit machines etc.
My only suggestion...its a little "echoey" in there and might benefit from some curtains or something to soften the accoustics as well as take off some of the "squareness" of the room.

I would rather look at a nice bit of crumpet behind the bar.

I was speaking to them about the lack of 'crumpet' behind the bar and Andrew told me they were considering Having a topless bit of crumpet on Thursdays and Tuesdays........... sounded good, till he told me they may even have a woman topless as well sometimes!

The plan is for Andrew to be topless on Thursdays and Chris on Tuesdays!
Apart from that its a lovely pub with great beers.

I wondered why Andrew was topless when I went in on Thursday.
I did notice that there was less echo in the room when he was serving on too!

#7 The only crumpet you've had was what your mother gave you plastered in butter!!!
