POLICE have reported a relatively trouble free Christmas and New Year period in Calderdale.
Extra patrols from the Halifax central neighbourhood policing team were deployed in the town centre on the Friday and Saturday night, just before Christmas – tradionally one of the busiest of the year – and for New Year's Eve.

Insp Peter Smith said: "Although we were very busy, mainly dealing with minor public disorders, everything was kept under control and all incidents were dealt with promptly before they had the chance to escalate."

Police were helped by the Street Angels and night marshals in keeping revellers safe and sound.
