CALDERDALE Council is pressing ahead with its efforts to finish the Shay east stand despite the uncertainty surrounding Halifax Town.
But the authority remains optimistic that a football team will be playing games at the ground next season.

Cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration and development David Kirton said he was concerned over the football club's plight.

"But as far as I am concerned it will not stop us going forward with the completion of the Shay stadium," he said.

"We will be discussing that with the Shay Stadium Trust.

"We all want to see the club going forward as it would be sad to see the end of football but we are none the wiser at what will happen.

"The consortium are not saying a right lot, if anything, but I do not see a reason why a football team can't play at the Shay.

"Whichever group comes forward it would have to be viable."

Councillor Kirton said he would be talking to all those involved in developing the stadium following the council's recent annual meeting.

And, once the football club's future was known he was optimistic progress could be made on the soccer front.

"We are waiting for the consortium to say what its proposals are before we can move forward," said Coun Kirton.

Lets get the Shay finished and fill it with Radcliffe Borough, Harrogate Railway or Wakefield FC fans. Up the Unibond Shaymen - or whatever we will be called if the consortium/supporters trust can decide between them.

Seeing is believing. Stop talking about completing the stadium and send some builders in. There is no real future for professional sport in Halifax until there is a suitable venue.

Your old Friend,

hilarious - what a complete and utter waste of money. why didnt they put the running track round the footy pitch at the shay? that would have been a better idea - have a "proper" sports facility - as it it the shay will never get used and re-pay its considerable debt

Glenn Ackroyd, director at property firm A Quick Sale, is paying £51 towards the £150 season ticket to anyone who can provide proof of Halifax residence.

There are still just one or two season tickets still available for Bradford Bantams.

So the remainder of the 200 ex-htfc fans/supportes be quick and take up this generous offer
