PARENTS raising cash for the hospital that helped save their daughters life have handed over thousands of pounds.
Little Ellis Cooper, from Sowerby Bridge, weighed only 1lb 5oz when she was born and had to spend five months in the neo-natal unit at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
Now the one-year-old is home, mum and dad Sara-Jo Cooper and Brian Shackleton, want to raise £36,000 for a specialist neonatal incubator for the ward where she was treated.
So far the couple, who run The Works at Hollins Mill Lane in Sowerby Bridge, have collected nearly £7,000 towards their target and have presented that cash to nurses.
"The response we've had has been fantastic," said Sara-Jo.
"There are some very generous-spirited and kind-hearted people out there."
The money has come from book sales at the family's pub, an auction, the sale of a CD dedicated to Ellis and donations.
Sara-Jo said they hope to hold more book sales – possibly making them a monthly event – as well as another auction around Ellis's second birthday next year.
Anyone interested in making a donation can contact the couple at The Works on 01422 834821.
