A COMMUNITY rallied together and raised funds at a spectacular ball for a village school.
About 370 diners gathered in a huge marquee in the grounds of Barkisland Primary School.

Head teacher Sue Sutton said the marquee colour theme was purple and it looked stunning.

"And, it was a brilliant night. Everybody looked absolutely amazing," she said.

"We have had fantastic support and are very grateful to all."

An auction itself raised £5,800 with the most expensive items being a Manchester Utd shirt signed by the current squad and another shirt signed by star player Wayne Rooney. Both fetched £650.

A further £4,000 was given from individuals and companies towards the funding of a new school extension.

The marquee was also used to host a successful gentlemen's dinner and the school hopes to raise around £16,000 from both events.
