A FESTIVAL has been launched in Calderdale to celebrate the great outdoors.
The South Pennines Walk and Ride festival was officially unveiled at Hebden Bridge railway station, to begin 16 jam-packed days of walks, cycle rides and nature trails across West Yorkshire and Lancashire.

A crowd turned up to witness the opening of the festival, organised by Pennine Prospects, which will feature everything from one-mile strolls to 47-mile mountain bike rides.

Graham Joyce, of Pennine Prospects, speaking at the opening in between the roar of passing trains, said: "We opened the festival here because Calderdale is very much in the heart of the south Pennines and has some fabulous walking and cycling routes.

"It is the third year we have organised the festival and we hope it will be great."

Calderdale highlights include a cycle tour across the Calder Valley, hidden rural walks from the heart of Halifax and guided tours of Ogden Water.

The trips are all led by experienced guides and are mostly free of charge.

The festival runs from September 13 to September 28.

No, I've tried that and I'd rather be out walking...maybe not a 47 mile bike ride though.
