Fax bosses call for meeting with council over Shay

HALIFAX RLFC bosses will seek urgent talks with Calderdale Council later this week to discuss the management of the Shay Stadium.
The ground is currently run by the Shay Stadium Trust, which was set up to co-ordinate the use of the arena by Fax and their co-tenants Halifax Town.

In the wake of Town going out of business on Friday, SST chairman Roger Simpson questioned the stadium's sustainability with a sole tenant.

Fax director Steven Bonfield said: "With respect to Roger and the SST, that is an incredibly short-sighted view.

"Our solution is to ensure the new East Stand is brought on line as soon as possible so that the maintenance of the pitch and the fabric of the stadium can be secured by the income generated from commercial activity without subsidy from either the Local Authority, national sporting organisations or, indeed, the professional clubs which use the pitch".

Bonfield confirmed he would be seeking a meeting with Council chief executive Owen Williams, and hinted the rugby league club were ready to step into the role currently taken by SST.

"We want to be given the opportunity to help to make the Shay Stadium the base for Halifax RLFC in Super League, a community asset for the whole of Calderdale to be proud of, and, hopefully, a home which we can share with a football team representing the town in the future," said Bonfield.

Interesting. Why does the SST Chairman make a statement like that without even bothering to ask the Rugby League club if they can afford to pay more rent or even take over the Shay? Hopefully the Rugby League club can take over the Shay and also that a Football club can run out of the Shay as well as other events happening there.

Now that this situation in hand isn't it time halifax looks at the two rugby teams Halifax RLFC & Halifax RUFC joining together, both clubs would benefit from a multi-purpose ground to be built somewhere in Calderdale, Ovenden Park is not suitable as it is and The Shay will probably be too much of a burdon.

Halifax Rugby Union have no money and what do they bring to the table? They will never need a stadium/Ground that can hold a couple of hundred as there is no interest in Rugby Union really in Halifax. It is better for Fax to stay at the Shay and the new soccer team to play there as well-no matter what level they play at! The way Union people have banned and tried to stop League being played, Fax would be best to have as little to do with Union people as possible!

VicRoad, you have no interest in football, and as their is not HTFC anymore, why dont u just p**s off. I am ashamed to live on the same road as an egotistical prat such as yourself. Let these people do what they want to do, if they want to restart a football club then let them do it, off their own backs. Dont need people like you mocking their every move.

Now then Vic Road you seem rather self centred. Anyway wait till the work starts on the development at No 42 Victoria Road.Where the big hole is at the back and they are knocking down what used to be a rather nice big old bungalow. I gather they are going to have a mosque. Perhaps you could go there if you don`t like football, put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!!.
Let those who care about both sports at the Shay have a decent stadium and a team to watch.

Many who play Union are just too old to play League-simple as. I know loads a people who play Union as its slower and not so physical. Rugby League Football and cricket are the sports people are interested in Halifax. And if there was so much interest to watch Union then why have Halifax struggled to get crowds despite being in a relatively high League and are struggling financially by all accounts?

Vic Road-Halifax could not sustain a Full time team travelling all over England. I would feel certain that a Semi Pro club could eventually work playing just in the North of England. There is enough interest to sustain that type of club. I wish the Town Fans the best in their work to start a new club. Least they are doing something positive instead of just moaning...
