Tim Quinn, former editor of the Spiderman, X-Men and The Incredible Hulk comics, is the latest addition to be announced in the line-up for Calderdale's festival for young people.

The list of events planned between July 1 and July 13 is packed with art, music, sport, visits by authors and much more.

Organisers have already revealed children's writer Anne Fine and poet Roger McGough will be turning up for the 2008 July Project, sponsored by the Halifax.

The festival, now in its second year, is organised by Square Chapel and Eureka.

Quinn will be holding sessions at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, on July 5.

Kathryn O'Doherty, from the project, said: "If you fancy learning how to tell your stories in pictures, come along and learn from the expert. Comic lovers of all ages are welcome."

Liverpool-born Quinn spent 30 years working as a scriptwriter, illustrator and editor on titles including The Beano, The Dandy, Sparky, The Topper, Buster, Whoopee!, Bunty, Jackie, Dr Who Magazine and Whizzer and Chips. He then moved Stateside to work for the Marvel Comics Group. Today he runs a management company.
