THE next generation of role models are celebrating their success.
A group of enthusiastic and inspirational youngsters have taken a course to train as Community Future Leaders of Tomorrow.

They completed a range of activities based on conflict resolution and creating peace in the world.

Guest speakers included Prof Paul Rogers, of Bradford University's peace studies department, and Colin Parry from the Foundation for Peace in Warrington.

The youngsters also spent a day making a video at the National Media Museum, Bradford.

Usman Ali, 14, said: "It was fantastic as we experienced how a real television studio worked.

"The video was about how young people are treated in communities.

"Half of us were in the video, and the other half worked off-set with sound, and auto-cueing."

The course is run by Action Halifax with funding from Calderdale Council through a Department for Communities and Local Government grant.

Rob Billson of Action Halifax said: "This has been a great opportunity for young people from the different communities in Calderdale to work together to deal with the issues affecting them in today's society.

"They have shown great enthusiasm and vision and I'm sure this programme will help them to become great leaders within their community."

Crossley Heath pupil Usman said: "Very rarely does an opportunity arise for an event like this.

"I am extremely pleased I took part because this programme doesn't just provide me with new skills but it gives me a chance to meet new people."

To promote the success of their work and recognise their achievements the teenagers have planned a graduation ceremony on April 11 from 6pm - 8pm.

They are inviting other young people to the event at the Actors' Workshop, Halifax, to show the importance of their role in democracy and to promote the Community Future Leaders programme.
