A DINNER attended by former party leader William Hague raised more than £10,000 for Halifax and Calder Valley Conservative Association's election fighting fund.

The event was held at Berties Restaurant, Elland, and attended by prospective Parliamentary candidates Philip Allott and Craig Whitaker.

  • Members of Calder Valley Labour Party are due to meet on Saturday to select a prospective Parlia-mentary candidate to replace Chris McCafferty at the next General Election.

Three people have been shortlisted for the position: Cherie Blair's stepmother, Stephanie Booth, from Todmorden, Hebden Royd town councillor Janet Oosthuysen and Jane Lewis, of Bury.

  • Baroness Ros Scott will meet Calderdale Liberal Democrat Party members in Hebden Bridge on Saturday.

She is in the running to become party president when Simon Hughes's term ends later this year.

Until recently she was the party's local government spokeswoman in the House of Lords.
