CALDERDALE is clamping down on counterfeit goods.
We will be the first in West Yorkshire to get behind the Real Deal campaign, aimed at tackling fakes trading.

Calderdale Council said it has been following a "zero-tolerance" approach to counterfeit goods at Calderdale markets over the last 12 mon
ths.

Now it is joining a national campaign to make markets "fake-free" places to shop and trade.

John Walker, markets manager, said: "We want our customers to be able to shop in our markets with confidence.

"A lot of fraudulent activity happens in markets and often the products can be dangerous or poorly made, so we want to put a total stop to it."

The council said it has been working with police and trading standards to ban counterfeit goods traders from markets and car-boot sales.

The announcement comes hot on the heels of a police raid at Halifax Borough Market in which a haul of suspected stolen goods were seized.
Three men – aged 32, 25 and 23 – and two teenage boys – aged 13 and 15 – were arrested in connection with the market raid last month. All were released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Perhaps they can use the confiscated fake goods to fill up the pot holes they haven't yet repaired...

I agree with #1

Start at the top with the mayor, then the councillors, then the other jobsworths lower down the food chain

even half decent counterfeit sales persons would steer well clear of clones of our councillors....... returns for "not working" etc would far outweigh sales predictions for 2010/2011 i know i would not touch one!!!!!!far too dodgy even the real mcoy councillors are useless aren`t they??????????????

You really are tiresome. How is this related to the story? Why don't you move to another borough - every story seems to warrant a comment like this from the same small minded little people.

What a joke, perhaps the Markets Manager might head to the Halifax car boot sale this weekend and take a look at all the dodgy stuff for sale!!

'fake-free'-- not until the last councilor and politician have left.

By they're gonna be busy after the budget has put cigs and booze up yet again. Trouble is the fakes can kill people, but do the Government care?
