A THIEF escaped in a luxury 4x4 stolen from the driveway of a house he had just burgled.
The raider broke into a house in Rowan Way, Northowram, Halifax, by forcing a patio door.

A TV, child's racing bike, cash and car keys were stolen before the burglar made off in the family's black Land Rover Discovery, registration M88 XOX.

The raid happened between 3am and 6am on Monday.

Detective Insp Ashley Hewitt said: "I cannot say enough how important it is that people do not leave car keys on view when they go to bed.

"People should hide them or take them upstairs.

"We have had several similar incidents in the Shelf, Northowram and Brighouse areas in the past few weeks.

"If anyone sees anyone acting suspiciously they should alert police. People committing such crimes often observe a house for hours or days before they strike."

Anyone with information should contact Calderdale CID on 01422 337085 or CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.

"People should hide them or take them upstairs" - i totally disagee. The family were obviously not disturbed, but what could have happened if the burgler couldnt find the keys!!! Yeh dont leave them on view from outside, but the last thing id do is take them upstairs.

Well I mean.

Has the householder looked in the fridge to check if any pies are also unaccounted for?

Sounds like this might not have happened at all if there had been an Intruder Alarm fitted & set!
