A FORMER rubber factory could be pulled down to make way for new homes.
The Calderdale Rubber Company began production in Pudsey Road, Todmorden, in 1948.
As recently as 1998, it was employed 47 workers and was exporting compounded rubber products to three continents.
The firm closed in 2000 and its factory, Glen Works, has since stood empty and vandalised.
A firm based in Jersey, Foxglove Properties, has now put amended plans to Calderdale Council to build 28 houses on the site at a cost of £5.3 million.
Earlier proposals for 24 houses were withdrawn because of concerns by the Environment Agency about drainage.
"The site is clearly unsuitable for employment use due to the close proximity of existing homes and the access, which is not appropriate for industrial vehicles," according to the company's planning consultants.
The council is expected to determine the application before the end of July.
