Children as young as five are simulating sex acts at school as a result of the pornography they are seeing on satellite television and the internet, a senior Labour MP claimed today.
Barry Sheerman (Huddersfield), Children, Schools and Families Select Committee chairman, said he had been told recently of the "disgusting" behaviour seen by teachers in infant schools.

And he launched a blistering attack on Rupert Murdoch's media empire, which he said was the biggest carrier of pornography in the world.

A company that made available such "filth" that could be seen by children did not impress him, he said.

Mr Sheerman's comments came during Commons debate on the Queen's Speech when he complained that Britain was "awash" with focus on early sexual activity.

He had been angered to read that Mr Murdoch and his son James Murdoch, chief executive of News Corporation in Europe and Asia, wanted to see BSkyB become more trusted than the BBC.

Mr Sheerman told MPs: "We are a country awash with focus on early sexual activity."

He said the amount of pornography on the internet and satellite television that was available to children "disturbed" him.

Mr Sheerman added: "I think it is very serious the access to pornography to children ... you go to infant schools now and teachers say to me: 'Children come here at five and six simulating sexual behaviour that they should know nothing about.' "That is something pretty disgusting.

"I was angered the other day when I read that Rupert and James Murdoch wanted to turn BSkyB into a more trusted and more loved broadcaster than the BBC.

"I had only read two days previously that not only is the Murdoch empire the biggest carrier of pornography in the world but have now bought a major supplier, maker of pornography in the US.

"I don't know what trusted and loved is but a company that puts that sort of filth, makes it available to children, does not impress me.

"Our children should be protected from that sort of pornography whether it is on BSkyB or whether it is on the internet.

"I believe that childhood ought to be protected."

Available to children aged 5 or 6? I don't imagine that the parents are to blame for letting them watch the stuff ...?

Another clueless politician. If kids are watching porn, it's because adults are letting them. Websites can be barred and skyporn is subscriber based, as Jackie Smith, hapless ex Home Secretary, found out.

Compared with when we brought up our children the world is a more dangerous place with complications we never encountered.

It's all down to parents to put in the effort of protecting their children.

For instance..a news report tonight tells of parents buying booze for their own childrent to take and drink on the streets under the misguided thought they were "regulating" their drinking.

Seemingly it didn't occur to them to lay down a bit of discipline and stop them drinking....although if discipline has never been applied it's a bit late to start with teenagers.

Its not just porn movies that encourage young children to act out such disgusting acts. I have been shocked at the stuff allowed on music channels. There is always semi naked women pouting and simulating sex on the floor and walls. If I had young children they wouldnt be allowed to watch music chanels.

Rob Reynolds @3: "...skyporn is subscriber based".

The free-to-view 'shows' they put on on those subscriber channels during the day (Sky channels 900 upwards) are pretty explicit.

I found them by accident. Honest guv.

Even Hollyoaks can be a bit racy and that's on on a Sunday!

7 Never seen them, but take your word for it. However, comment still applies. If kids are watching porn, it's because adults let them.

There are controls on both sky and computers which will regulate what children can and cannot see.

Ill have to look into any job vacancies at Sky at the moment, sounds like the place to be!

This kind of nasty and pathetic comment should have died out years ago. Denying people access to material of any kind is censorship and simply induces mental illness. Most of the porn on sky is pretty tame and is all soft core anyway. People are much more sophisticated these days or one would have thought so.
