It's a world record: Bob the wonder dog is sold for £4,200
A DOG bred by a Calderdale handler has been sold for a world-record price.
Bob, an 11-month-old sheepdog, was bred by Trevor Smith, of Great House Farm, Colden, Hebden Bridge.
Mr Smith sold Bob as a pet but when the dog did not settle into domestic life he was taken on by John Bell, of Selby, at seven months.
Mr Bell has just sold Bob to an anonymous Scottish bidder, who paid 4,000 guineas (£4,200) for him at auction.
This smashes the world-record price paid for a dog under 12 months. There was fierce bidding for Bob at Skip-ton Auction Mart.
Iris Boyle, who organises the sheepdog sales, said: "Good working dogs average between 1,500 and 3,000 guineas. He is worth so much more because he is a very high-class working dog."
The highest price ever paid for a working dog of any age was in 2004, when two-year-old bitch Floss sold for 4,100 guineas (£4,305).
Mr Smith runs a border collie breeding and training business from his Colden farm.
